Our Spotlight Author for April 2005

Romance Author Julie Anne Long

Dear Readers,

I’m delighted—and a little astonished, frankly—to be a spotlight author at Romance Reader at Heart this month, and to get a chance to tell you about my second book, TO LOVE A THIEF. Astonished, because at about this time last year (9:00 in the morning, specifically, as I type this), I was staggering off to join the hordes of other bleary-eyed, freshly scrubbed, decidedly grouchy commuters aboard the N Judah commuter train that took me to work in downtown San Francisco. This morning, on the other hand, I commuted all the way to my kitchen to make some tea (it’s a hazardous commute, mind you—you can easily trip over a cat who’s doing frantic figure eights around your feet) and then commuted back about twenty feet back to my desk to begin my workday. In my sweats and a bathrobe, no less. (Though I have seen people on the train in San Francisco wearing pretty much just that. Nobody blinks at anything in San Francisco).

This has been happening since last October, but I have to tell you: I get a fresh kick out of it every morning. I’m a full time author now, but I wrote a good portion of TO LOVE A THIEF, my second book (after THE RUNAWAY DUKE), in 45 minutes bursts on the N Judah, the train that connected my two worlds last year. TO LOVE A THIEF is the tale of Lily Masters, a feisty pickpocket from St. Giles with a talent for telling stories, and Gideon Cole, a brilliant, ambitious (and gorgeous) barrister with an unfortunate weakness for underdogs. It’s an honor and a privilege to be able to be able to share it with you here on Romance Reader at Heart.

And meanwhile, if you’d like to find out more about my books, my glamorous life, my cat, etc., drop by http://www.julieannelong.com, or send me a note, if you get the urge. I’d love to hear from you!
